Highlights from Sunday, May 1!

Kindergarteners began today by discussing the birthday of Israel - Yom Ha'Atzmaut. To celebrate, everyone made Israeli flags and talked about how special Israel is to the Jewish people.
In first grade, the class focused on the Shehecheyanu blessing - a
blessing thanking God for giving us life, sustaining our lives and enabling us to reach memorable moments in our lives. In music class with Ms. Meredith, we sang the blessing and used instruments and scarves to really make it special.
Second graders made really cool kippot and heard the story of the "Tatooed Torah." They also completed their Hebrew Dictionary - or M'lon Ivrit and had music to celebrate Yom Ha'Atzmaut.
In third grade, the day began with Hebrew, and everyone had a spirited music session complete with musical instruments. They also learned about the kibbutz and explored the idea of communal living.
Our fourth graders enjoyed celebrating Yom Ha'Atzmaut as they sang songs and prayers and learned new Israeli dances. They discussed some new facts about Israel and played a game using their Israel facts and Hebrew words with special rules.
Fifth grade began their final unit on death and mourning. After a discussion about some of the basic customs and traditions, we split up in groups and explored the importance of the tearing of clothing, yarzheit candles, and the Mourners' Kaddish.
The sixth graders continued working on their Negev packets and helped each other with this project as well. They had a fun Q and A session about the climate, capital, tourist sites and history. In Hebrew, they discussed their personal relationships with God, and how private time gives us the opportunity to communicate and connect with God. Everyone shared their experiences on cards that now decorate one of our display boards - check it out!
After our busy day of classes, everyone met up for a wonderful and festive Family Tefilah!
