Sunday, May 15 Highlights!

In Hebrew today, the sixth graders focused on the concept of Peace. The students discussed the idea that even within the Jewish tradition, peace is not a static image, and that we all have different ideas of what peace means. In Judaic Studies, everyone took a final quiz to gauge how much they have learned this semester. The students also enjoyed discussing what they can look forward to in the seventh grade as they prepare for the upcoming Bar and Bat Mitzvah season!
Our fifth graders finished their CD of all the Hebrew prayers. Everyone
had a great time reviewing and performing for each other. In Judaic Studies they discussed the importance of showing respect to our elders and rewrote today's mitzvah with contemporary language and style. Then, the students performed skits in which they showed the correct way to interact with our elders.
Fourth graders discussed Moses delivering the Ten Commandments from God at Mount Sinai, and they explored the meaning of the commandments citing which one was important to each of them. Next Sunday, the fourth grade will be having a class party, so look for an email this week to see what everyone has volunteered to bring.
In third grade we learned the Hebrew letter samech and practiced siddur phrases. We also learned about Haifa and attempted to build a tall structure using different items.
Second graders concluded their Torah studies with the Book of Exodus and the story of the golden calf. Mrs. Grossman's class completed their Kippah Art Project, and got to take home their kippot to show off.
We celebrated all the Hebrew words and letters we've learned this year in first grade. We also played games, made collages, and enjoyed a special snack - "glidah" - better known as ice cream! This was the last day with Ms. Phyllis since she will be out of town next week, so there were some goodbyes and everyone enjoyed having fun and being together.
And finally, our Kindergarten class was hopping as usual - they made beautiful Shabbat candleholders and discussed again how being a mensch is so important. Next week, Kindergarten will be having their end of year party....Ileana Bronstein will be contacting everyone with more details.
Remember - the last Wednesday of Religious School is 5/18 (grades 4-7), and next Sunday, 5/22, is our last Sunday (grades K-6)!
