A Great Last Day! May 20th

The name of the game on Sunday was FUN!

Thanks to everyone who supported our teens going to Israel and came out for a very successful car wash!
5th grade was busy with final review, games and of course a killer class party!

6th grade had their final Judaic assessment and a class party!
In Kindergarten we played Jewish Holiday trivia and recalled all we learned this year. We also spent some time talking about our summer plans and how we can demonstrate our "love your neighbor as yourself" lessons.  We
had an ice cream party and enjoyed our last class together.

3rd graders put their Hebrew and Judaic Studies learning together to read sections of the Israeli Declaration of Indpendence - IN HEBREW!

The 4th grade played Around the world reviewing Alef Bet Quest key words, tic tac toe reviewing the words from the V’ahavta. The class had a discussion of what were some of the important things we learned this year.  And the culmination was a party for ending a wonderful year!

The first grade class enjoys a final story with Ms. Diaz!

Mr. Levy's 2nd grade class finished their year by voting to give their tzedakah money to the Lotus House and having a ceremony to celebrate learning all the Hebrew letters. Mrs. Rodriguez's class finished with a return trip to the kitchen to make cookies in the shapes of Hebrew letters.

We hope everyone has a safe, healthy, and happy summer!

May 16th - Last Wednesday Together

The 4th-6th graders attended a special tefillah for the end of the year. Our theme was learning. In addition to reading several prayers about learning, the students had a chance to share all of the different things they have learned this year. It was pretty impressive!

The 7th grade had a special party to end their studies for the year. Included were writing letters to themselves about how they wanted to continue their Jewish involvement, drama games, a Simpsons episode, paper plate awards, and food to celebrate the Jewish year (apples and honey, latkes, hamentashen, falafel, ice cream, etc.)!

Happy Mother's Day - May 13

It was wonderful to be able to offer an opportunity for moms to relax with chair massages. Thanks to everyone who participated!

This is the time when classes were completing final projects - Kindergarten reviewed the overal value of the curriculum and worked on their Memory books. In 2nd grade Mr. Levy's class finished their Hebrew dictionary and Mrs. Rodriguez's class completed a final hamsa art project. The 3rd grade finished their journey through the Hebrew alphabet and students were able to read HaTikvah, Israel's national anthem. 4th graders had a chance to complete their Judaic Studies albums. We will have a lot of great projects to show off everything that has happened this year!

Thanks JTY Board! - May 9th

The new JTY board came to religious school today and led awesome programs for our 6th and 7th graders. It was a ton of fun and we learned about lots of new skills that the kids had (like being able to flip a cookie from their forehead to their mouth)!

May 6th - First Grade Family Program on Miami Beach!

The first grade had an exciting time going on a scavenger hunt on Miami Beach.

We looked at Jewish ritual objects, beautiful synagogue windows and had a great time learning. Thanks Sam Lewis for taking all the fantastic pictures!

Focus on 4th Grade - May 2nd

Our fourth grade class was introduced to the study of Shavuot.  We read the Ten Commandments in Hebrew and learned that Shavuot is the time of our receiving the Torah. In addition we sang songs about the 613 Commandments. The Tel Aviv group will individually recite the blessing before Torah study and discuss which Torah characters have characteristics that you admire, that you dislike, and what would you do in their place?  Fourth and Fifth grade had a special Kitah Kef where they reviewed the geography of Israel and made their own maps using all kinds of frosting, candy, and other edible objects!

Sunday, April 29th - no gloom inside!

Last week, kindergarten got our suitcases ready - today we left for an exciting adventure in Israel! We learned about the Kotel (the Western Wall), a Kibbutz and the Dead Sea.  We watched a DVD about Israel - Shalom Sesame - Welcome to Israel. and had an Israeli-inspired snack complete with hummus and pita, Osem chocolate wafers and even a little taste of Israeli chocolate (yummy!). We finished our day with Family Tefilah!

5th grade students work with Mrs. Goldberg and Matthew to look at the Shalom blessings that are part of morning and evening services.
In Judaic Studies the 5th graders looked at the Holiness Code and explored what the most important rules in this code are!
Mr. Levy's class learned about the 10 Commandments and began making their Hebrew dictionary!
Students worked to identify the dvar hayom - word of the day. They had a lively discussion on whether Isaac was DECEIVED or whether Isaac knew he was being tricked!
Our fourth grade class reviewed reading the names in Hebrew of cities and landmarks in Israel.  We sang Israeli songs and did a few Israeli dances.
We made thank you cards for Israeli soldiers in honor of Yom HaAtzmaut. We learned about Heshbon HaNefesh, taking an internal stock of how we are doing. This tied in with learning the Hebrew letter chet!

In Hebrew, 6th graders reviewed their prayers. In Judaic Studies they got ready for the upcoming Jewish Lens exhibit!
3rd Grade had a special program with Ms. Amy where they made three dimensional art in the style of the Israeli artist Yaakov Agam!

We began our morning by writing down in our journals what we are grateful for. We also learned that Judaism has a special prayer we say every morning to thank God for another day of life. The prayer is called "Modeh Ani." The children made a mobile with the prayer.
Thanks to Jonathan Maia for taking pictures of everything that was going on today!
