Sunday, April 10 Highlights

Our fourth graders started off the day with their parents as they enjoyed the 4th Grade Family Program, A Personal Passover. Each family was challenged to create a portion of the Passover story by using only construction paper and butcher paper. It turned out to be beautiful!
In Kindergarten, the children learned the words and the symbols that teach us the Passover story, and how the Jews were treated badly as slaves. They also finished up working on the Four Questions so they could be ready for seder!
First graders started off their day with a wonderful Passover story called "The Matzah that Papa Brought Home" by Fran Manushkin. After, they had a discussion about the Four Children and how we are all a composite of characteristics. Ms. Meredith joined us for a fun music class also - busy day!
In second grade, the kids enjoyed learning about Torah and the Ten Commandments. They also had music with Ms. Meredith, and reviewed the Four Questions to perfection.
Third grade students continued their good work in Hebrew and were able to play a game using their Hebrew letters. They learned a little about Tiberias and the great Jewish text that was compiled there. They also did an activity that introduced students to the idea of commentary on another person's ideas.
In fifth grade Judaic Studies, everyone discussed the various parts of a Jewish wedding and the types of rituals performed. The students learned about aufruf, ketubot, bedeken, kabbalat panim, circling, breaking the glass, shevah brachot, the chuppah and more. On Wednesday, we will complete a "Wedding Vocabulary Crossword!"
Lastly, our sixth graders analyzed some of the Passover prayers and learned the answers to the Four Questions. They also studied some text from the Mishnah portion, and explored the theme of seeing themselves as being freed from slavery.
Everyone had a great time as we joined together for a Family Tefilah at the end of our day.
Remember - no class on Sunday, April 17, Wednesday, April 20 or Sunday, April 24 in observance of Passover. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!
