2/26 at Religious School!

We had a special family program for our 3rd grade families today - which is why you might have seen Theodore Herzl or Golda Meir at Temple Judea! Thanks to all our volunteers who made this such a great program.
Our 5th graders joined 5th grade students from all over South Dade for a program sponsored by CAJE-Miami and the Miami Jewish Film Festival. The group saw the movie "Hana's Suitcase."  We are proud of the participation of our students!  The movie focused on the issue of treating others with tolerance. After the movie, each student wrote an action step on the
inside of an origami dove, something they could personally do to be inclusive with others.  Please ask your child about the movie and experience.
And there were lots of other exciting activities taking place in our religious school classrooms!
Today our focus in Kindergarten was on Purim. We discussed how Esther and Mordecai were very brave and how they demonstrated their love and concern for their fellow Jews. They certainly followed our “love thy neighbor as yourself” theme. We read the story "Queen Esther Saves her People" by Rita Gelman. We began several Purim craft  projects too! We decorated masks, painted crowns and colored puppets. Next week we will continue to focus on Purim.
First grade started preparing for  the holiday Purim. Queen Esther’s bravery saved the Jewish people. We compared her to other Jewish heroes and heroines whose bravery taught us how to act. Purim is a very happy and joyful holiday. Everyone had a lot of fun participating in our class Purim spiel (play).
In Second grade we learned the Hebrew letters Tet and Pay. We discussed the Torah regarding Miriam and how she lead the women song. We also learned how Moses got help from his father-in-law on how to be a good leader.
The 4th graders reviewed the story of Purim in Hebrew. This included highlighting Hebrew terms & characters. We played a drawing game identifying the drawings in Hebrew related to Purim. We also tested each other on reading the V’ahavta. In Judaic Studies the class continued with the story of Sodom & Gomarrah. The words of the day were destruction and sanctification.
In 6th grade we worked on presenting our Temple to our partners in Israel. Each student will choose a part of our Temple building, and will share its meaning to our friends from Yachdav. In Judaic Studies we started a new chapter, the Galilee. We created a word splash with the new information.
