If you happened to be at Temple Judea today, you couldn't help but notice our third graders and their families as they enjoyed the 3rd Grade Family Program: A Walk Through Israeli History. They had a great time as they met and spoke to Golda Meir, Ilan Ramon, Yoni Netanyahu and more. As part of the program, the third grade families also enjoyed tasting delicious Israeli food like falafel and Israeli salad.
The rest of the Religious School stayed busy in classes as the Kindergarteners began discussing the story of Purim and made a puppet of characters such as Mordechai, Esther and Haman. First graders completed their Genesis journey today with the story of Joseph, as they discussed the importance of asking for forgiveness (saying "slicha") and admitting their mistakes. Our second graders learned some new Hebrew letters (peh and samech) and sang Purim songs in Music class with Ms. Meredith.
In fourth grade, the saga of Joseph continues with the story of how his jealous brothers threw him in to a pit, and ultimately landed him in jail in Egypt. The class worked on their Dream Notebooks thinking about the dreams of the butler and the baker. Who was fortunate, and who was doomed??
The fifth graders discussed the Bar/Bat Mitzvah checklists and framed the discussion around the concept of Jewish licenses, comparing the idea to operating a motor vehicle. One cannot do this without the proper training in the same way that we cannot become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah until we have completed the proper levels of Jewish education.
Sixth grade had an opportunity to practice the Ashrei and work on the V'ahavta by utilizing the blog. They also started a chapter on Old Jerusalem and had a discussion about King David.
Everyone finished up the day with a wonderful time at Family Tefilah - where we saw all our friends and sang fun Purim songs!
