Sunday, April 29th - no gloom inside!

Last week, kindergarten got our suitcases ready - today we left for an exciting adventure in Israel! We learned about the Kotel (the Western Wall), a Kibbutz and the Dead Sea.  We watched a DVD about Israel - Shalom Sesame - Welcome to Israel. and had an Israeli-inspired snack complete with hummus and pita, Osem chocolate wafers and even a little taste of Israeli chocolate (yummy!). We finished our day with Family Tefilah!

5th grade students work with Mrs. Goldberg and Matthew to look at the Shalom blessings that are part of morning and evening services.

In Judaic Studies the 5th graders looked at the Holiness Code and explored what the most important rules in this code are!

Mr. Levy's class learned about the 10 Commandments and began making their Hebrew dictionary!

Students worked to identify the dvar hayom - word of the day. They had a lively discussion on whether Isaac was DECEIVED or whether Isaac knew he was being tricked!

Our fourth grade class reviewed reading the names in Hebrew of cities and landmarks in Israel.  We sang Israeli songs and did a few Israeli dances.

We made thank you cards for Israeli soldiers in honor of Yom HaAtzmaut. We learned about Heshbon HaNefesh, taking an internal stock of how we are doing. This tied in with learning the Hebrew letter chet! 

In Hebrew, 6th graders reviewed their prayers. In Judaic Studies they got ready for the upcoming Jewish Lens exhibit!

3rd Grade had a special program with Ms. Amy where they made three dimensional art in the style of the Israeli artist Yaakov Agam! 

We began our morning by writing down in our journals what we are grateful for. We also learned that Judaism has a special prayer we say every morning to thank God for another day of life. The prayer is called "Modeh Ani." The children made a mobile with the prayer.
