If you happened to be at Temple Judea today, you couldn't help but notice our third graders and their families as they enjoyed the 3rd Grade Family Program: A Walk Through Israeli History. They had a great time as they met and spoke to Golda Meir, Ilan Ramon, Yoni Netanyahu and more. As part of the program, the third grade families also enjoyed tasting delicious Israeli food like falafel and Israeli salad.
The rest of the Religious School stayed busy in classes as the Kindergarteners began discussing the story of Purim and made a puppet of characters such as Mordechai, Esther and Haman. First graders completed their Genesis journey today with

Wednesday, February 23 Highlights!
Our 4th, 5th and 6th graders had a great time at Tefilah today and had an opportunity to share their knowledge of the prayers with each other. Fourth graders played a reading game with the V'ahavta prayer in class, and they began learning the Hatikvah as well. In Judaic Studies, the fourth graders continued working on their Dream Notebooks. They also divided in groups that they chose themselves in order to plan the decorating of the bulletin boards (designers, artists and writers). In fifth grade we learned a new song by Dan Nichols called "Sweet as Honey" that we will be singing at this week's Jr. Congregation service on Friday night (February 25)! We'd love to see everyone there! In sixth grade, we played a Jewpardy game with our information about the New Jerusalem, and our Hebrew class practiced the Aleinu and the Shabbat evening Kiddush. We also learned about our new BLOG....and how we can practice our prayers and reading skills by using it. Everyone loves the idea, and we love sharing our news with you!
Parenting Podcasts from the URJ
Check out these parenting podcasts for a fantastic way to get expert feedback on the challenges of parenting today. Melanie Goldberg, URJ Education Specialist and 4th grade Judaic Studies teacher recommends them!
I just started listening to some of the podcasts that Wendy Grinberg has produced for the URJ. They are terrific!

Wednesday, February 16 Highlights!
The smell of pizza was wafting from the fourth grade classroom this evening as we had a fun pizza party for the 4th grade group as a congrats for finishing up the entire Alef Bet Quest book. They have learned all their Hebrew letters and vowels, and are even getting to know some of the important prayers by heart. Mrs. Goldberg continued Jacob's Diary with the Judaic Studies class in fourth grade as well. In fifth grade, everyone finished putting the finishing touches on their "about me" posters, and we even worked on "about" posters for Jewish figures and Temple Judea personalities. Look for them beginning next week in Room 7! Hebrew students in fifth grade finished learning

Sunday Highlights - February 13, 2011
We had a busy morning beginning with our amazing 6th Grade Family Program. The Kindergarten class completed their second lesson on the Synagogue theme, as they visited the Sanctuary and defined various objects one would find in a Synagogue. First graders continued their journey through Genesis and discussed the concept of "shalom bayit", or peace in the home. Our second graders had fun learning about Miriam and the sea of reeds, creating artwork about God's imprint and playing Hebrew Hangman. Third grade reviewed Hebrew, continued learning the Hatikvah and began preparing for Purim. Our students in fourth grade began working on a Dream Notebook as they learned about Joseph's dreams and conflicts. Fifth graders continued working on their "about me" posters and perfecting the Amidah prayer in Hebrew. It was a terrific day!

6th Grade Family Program
It was wonderful having a full house of 6th graders and their parents at school this morning! Parents talked with Rabbi Goldberg about the b'nai mitzvah ceremony while students researched their Hebrew names and birth dates. Everyone joined together to share ideas and design a wimple that we hope will be used when they are called to the Torah as a Bar or Bat Mitzvah!
