A Super Sunday - Here's what happened on 11.20.11
Today was super busy! Our 6th graders went all over the building taking pictures as part of the Jewish Lens program. They also created a bulletin board that will teach the community about Yachdav and involve them in the program. In 5th grade Judaic Studies we reviewed the concept of Tzedek (justice). Each student was able to name multiple characters from the Bible who demonstrate just behavior. After reading quotes from the Bible about justice, the students created skits to demonstrate how we can express tzedek in a modern day setting. In Hebrew the 5th grade started
learning about the shema. Please look at our class blog www.5thgradehebrewtj.blogspot.com. 4th graders began the day with a visit from Dr. Hamburger (one of the 4th grade parents). The students listened to, and discussed, some of his poetry. In Hebrew the letters today were nun and final nun. In Judaic Studies, the word of the day was "sibling rivalry" as the students continued to discuss the story of Cain and Abel! In the 3rd grade students welcomed Rabbi Siegal who told the students about travelling to Israel with Temple Judea teens. The class also created commercials on why people should visit Ein Gedi and learned the Hebrew letter resh and the eh vowels. In 2nd grade, Mrs. Rodriguez's class heard a story about kavod (honor) called the Wooden Bowl. We continued the story of Moses and discussed the 10 plagues and how Pharaoh was so stubborn. Mr. Levy's class learned the Hebrew letter tzadee and participated in skits about being slaves in Egypt. The 1st grade class learned about Rebecca and her kindness to animals and people and her courage to travel to a place she did not know. The Kindergarten class finished our tzedakah boxes and talked about Jewish book month. We began to write and illustrate our own book about our Bedtime Rituals family program!
Remember there is no Hebrew school next week - Happy Thanksgiving!
