If you had a chance to visit us today, you would have had a chance to see many of our budding artists at work. Our first through sixth graders showed their talent as they made beautiful matzah plates for Passover - don't forget to put it on the table as an addition to your Seder decor!
Kindergarteners also reviewed those important Four Questions with Ms. Meredith. They had a discussion about the questions and some of the symbolism of Passover, including why we recline on this holiday. Everyone decorated cushion covers for the families to use for their special reclining at their Seder.
First graders also had a chance to talk about symbolism while discussing the Seder plate and some of the traditions of Passover. They discussed the ten plagues using masks and volunteers. Everyone joined in as they played a fun riddle game called "Who am I?" to show off their Passover knowledge as well!
In second grade, after the Art project and a review of some Passover prayers, everyone enjoyed learning special Hebrew words and playing games with their new vocabulary. Students in Ms. Miriam's class played Mazoret and the winners received prizes!
Our third graders learned the Hebrew letter kaf, and had a good time reading the siddur and looking for their new letter in all the prayers. In Judaic Studies, the kids learned about the Jordan River and began telling the story of Joseph.
The fourth graders sung and discussed the Four Questions, and studied some of the songs and blessings from the Haggadah as well. They also played a Concentration game with Hebrew and English Passover terms. Everyone created a picture timeline of the Joseph saga in Judaic Studies and brought home their Dream Notebooks. Next week is the 4th Grade Family Program...A Personal Passover! It's going to be a wonderful day and we can't wait to see you all!
In fifth grade Judaic Studies, students were introduced to the "marriage" unit as part of their life cycle curriculum. Looking at the song "Matchmaker, Matchmaker" from Fiddler on the Roof, everyone discussed the way marriage had been viewed long ago. They wrote new, modern verses to the song, and had a fantastic time creating and singing them for each other!
Sixth graders began a new chapter on the Galilee in Judaic Studies, and they read and discussed the history and geography of the area. In Hebrew, everyone did a great job as they completed their thank you letters to God. They also practiced their Passover prayers and are working hard to remember everything by heart!
