After a long, relaxing Winter Break it was wonderful to get back into the swing of things!
On Sunday Miss Mikki’s Kindergarten class focused on the role of the
synagogue. The group read a story called "The Old Synagogue" by
Richard Rosenblum. After that Kindergarten went on a "synagogue
hunt" to locate special areas at our Temple. They took pictures and
discussed their favorite places at Temple Judea.
Mrs. Rodriguez’s Second Grade class learned the “ee” vowel. They also had
a special snack. Afterwards the group had fun playing jeopardy—they even
won prizes!
In Morah Rachel’s Third Grade Hebrew Through Movement class students reviewed verbs, nouns, and others useful
words from earlier this year. After singing the Aleph Bet song, third graders
learned new words like Leharim (to put up), Lehorid (to put down) and Lasim Al
(to put on). Students also learned words like Al Yad (next to) and Tachat
(under).
On Sunday Mrs. Waldman’s Fourth Grade class reviewed "The Tower of Babel" and discussed reasons why was God was unhappy with it. Children also composed their very own Midrashim. After that Mrs. Waldman divided the group into teams and asked each one to address the importance of different Biblical scenes. Fourth Grade's awesome madrich Sam took photos of the presentations.
Mrs. Bulbin’s Fourth Grade class reviewed new words with “oo” vowels and read words
in their Aleph Bet Quest book with a game. Students also identified words that
matched pictures in their comparison readers.
After that
the group talked about Tu B’Shevat and labeled nature pages with Hebrew
words. Fourth graders also learned a song with motions to the Hebrew for
Artzei Zaitim Omdim, or “Olive Trees Are Standing.” During Prayer in the
Classroom students learned the different categories of blessings.
On Sunday Mrs.
Goldberg’s Fifth Grade Hebrew class learned vocabulary found in the classroom setting,
including words like book, notebook, pencil, etc. Students used these classroom
items as props for conversations. During Prayer in the Classroom fifth graders
learned about Creation, Redemption and Revelation. Finally, the group reviewed
the Kiddush, the prayer we say over the Shabbat and Holiday wine or grape
juice.
On Sunday
Sarah’s Fifth Grade Judaic Studies class learned about honesty. After
discussing nine different types of falsehoods students broke into teams and
discussed which types of lies have the most negative impact on the speaker as
well as the listener. Sarah’s Hebrew Class reviewed their letters and vowels
and read a story about the seven days of creation.
The students chanted the Birkat Torah and practiced lesson six,
Ba Kibbutz, in their books. They completed some activities within the lesson,
including a word search.
Shoshana’s
class learned about the Israeli economy. They also played games with their new
Hebrew words.
